Elite repel Aces in 2 OTs, post record run

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

Games tomorrow (Smart Araneta Coliseum)

4:15 p.m. – Phoenix vs TNT

7 p.m. – San Miguel vs GlobalPort

MANILA, Philippines - Henry Walker fired 35 points and hauled down a career-high 32 rebounds as Blackwater wore down hard-luck Alaska in second overtime, 111-106, last night to post a franchise-best three-game streak in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the MOA Arena in Pasay.

Bambam Gamalinda and Mike Digregorio also came through with clutch triples to dash the Aces’ hopes and deliver a third straight victory against two losses for the Elite.

The run was Blackwater’s longest since it joined the league three seasons ago.

Later in the night, Star bucked a long layoff and overpowered Phoenix, 100-81, to stretch its win run to four while dealing the Fuel Masters their fifth straight defeat after winning their first two games.

“We showed character and we had some luck in the end,” said Blackwater coach Leo Isaac. “This win is special to us because this is the franchise’s longest streak here in the PBA.”

He also credited Walker for the team’s resurgence.

“We call him ‘Mr. Inspiration’ because he gave us inspiration in the last three games,” said Isaac of their replacement import, who came in for Trevis Simpson a few weeks ago.

It was also the club’s first win in eight games that went extra through extra time.
