Young aces gear up for Petron Asian karting

John Dizon will banner the country’s bid against the region’s top karters in the Asian Karting Open.

MANILA, Philippines - The region’s top karters and rising stars brace for a fierce battle in the second round of the 2017 Petron Tri-Activ Asian Karting Open Championships set Aug. 25-27 at the Carmona Racetrack in Carmona, Cavite.

Participants from China, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the host country will dispute the titles in the X30 Senior, X30 Master, X30 Veteran, Formula 125 Open Senior, X30 Junior, Formula 125 Open Junior, Mini-ROK, Formula KT 100 and the Apex Cup Series X30 Senior classes.

Comebacking Jacob Paolo Ang of Eagle Cement-Petron Racing Team and John Dizon of Edgesport Racing will banner the country’s campaign in the X30 Senior and Formula 125 Open Senior classes of the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines, approved by the world governing Commission Internationale de Karting-Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (CIK-FIA).

Out to foil their bid are Japanese Takaharu Nakamori of Apex Racing and Macau champion Joao Afonso of CKS Racing Team, who leads the standings with 32 points following his runner-up finish in the Macau kickoff leg.

Also competing in both the X30 Senior and Formula 125 Open Senior categories of the event, sponsored by Petron, Petron Blaze 100 Euro 6, Petron XCS, Petron Ultron, Petron Xtra, Petron Sprint, Magnolia Pure Water and Yokohama the official tires, are reigning Asian Karting Open champion Jerry Choi of Apex Racing and Chinese nationals Yan Liang and Haopeng Zhang of Mars Racing.
