MANILA, Philippines -  Rain or Shine, minus Gabe Norwood and Raymond Almazan, played good enough to check a two-game slide with a 94-86 win over the hard-luck Kia side in the PBA Governors Cup at the MOA Arena in Pasay City last night.

New import J’Nathan Bullock and new trade recruits Mark Borboran and Ed Daquioag dished out big games as they helped the E-Painters get back on track after dropping their last two assignments against the NLEX Road Warriors (114-122 in overtime) and the Meralco Bolts (73-89).

They nailed a second win after their triumphant conference debut against the GlobalPort Batang Pier (98-96) while the Picanto stayed winless in six outings.

But the E-Painters took a while before eventually disposing of their struggling rivals.

“Our import took so many outside shots. When we started attacking, that’s the time we got to the line. I’m surprised we had no free throws in the first half,” Garcia also said. “We know our import can shoot from the outside. We see it in practice. Inabot siguro ng pagod.”

Bullock, a Cleveland State star who took over from JD Weatherspoon, made just two of 10 three-point tries. He struggled with a 7-of-23 clip overall and committed seven turnovers in a shaky PBA debut.

NLEX dominated the boards and scored numerous baskets off offensive rebounds in a crucial closing romp as the Road Warriors stopped the Meralco Bolts’ unbeaten run with a 100-94 decision in the nightcap.

Aaron Fuller delivered 25 points and 18 rebounds while Kevin Alas, Larry Fonacier and JR Quiñahan came through with double-digit outputs off the bench as the Road Warriors bounced back from their loss to the Barangay Ginebra Kings the last time out.
