Torres impresses in ONE debut, submits foe
MACAU — Jomary Torres said it herself: She’s more comfortable in the cage, fighting.
On Saturday night, she proved just that, submitting Rika Ishige in the second round in the preliminaries of ONE Championship’s “Kings and Conquerors” at the Cotai Arena here.
Torres was anything but shy on fight night. Delighting the spectators with an entrance to the tune of “Mga Kababayan Ko,” the Filipina went on to unleash strikes in the first.
The debuting fighter kept her foot on the pedal in the second round, making Ishige — who goes by the moniker “Tiny Doll” for her looks — curl in defense.
The Japanese-Thai Ishige tapped out with 3:02 left in the second canto, leaving the cage with a swollen left cheek.
This is only Zamboanga native’s second victory in her pro career.
Ishige, for her part, dropped to 2-1 in the promotion.
Two more Pinoys, Eric Kelly and Joshua Pacio, seek victories in the showpiece.
