MANILA, Philippines — Japan’s Sho Kimura delivered a bloody and gritty stand to stun and dethrone Chinese boxing superstar Zou Shiming on Friday night.

Shiming, a boxer who is known for his sparring work with Manny Pacquiao, ran out of gas in the 11th round, which exposed him to a flurry of punches by the unheralded Kimura and cost him the WBO world flyweight title.

The Chinese Olympian got caught by a left-right combination by Kimura, who earlier suffered a cut near his eye. The latter then “fell flat on his back,” according to a South China Morning Post report.

The 36-year-old Zou dropped to 9-2-0 in his professional campaign.

Kimura, for his part, who also weathered a 1-10 disadvantage in bets, hiked his line to 15-1-2.

The officials’ scores were at 96-94, 94-96, and 97-93 for Kimura before he scored the deciding punch of the night.
