Meralco's Durham elated for chance to get back at Ginebra
MANILA, Philippines — Allen Durham will enjoy a “last laugh.” For now.
After defeating a retooled Barangay Ginebra in Sunday night’s skirmish, last Governors’ Cup Best Import admitted that there’s a bit of satisfaction knocking down an old tormentor.
“It feels good to beat one of the better teams in the league,” he said.
Durham emptied 10 of his 30 points in the final frame to help the Bolts foil a comeback bid by the Gin Kings.
The 6-foot-6 big man is a returning reinforcement for the Meralco. Ginebra, on the other hand, recalled Justin Brownlee, who endeed their eight-year championship drought by sinking a jumper over—you guessed it—the Bolts’ old reliable.
“That being said, it’s just the second game of the conference,” Durham quickly noted. “We got to stay humble, keep working hard, and you know, get ready on Saturday. We got another tough team.”
The American is referring to the ever-unpredictable Rain or Shine ElastoPainters, whom they play in Antipolo, Rizal.
The Bolts are now enjoying a 2-0 record, sharing the top of the conference ladder with Phoenix and the rejuvenated NLEX.
