MANILA, Philippines — Basketball never stops, they say.

And that goes without saying for the NBA stars who visit the country during the league’s offseason.

Oklahoma City’s Steven Adams is in town to help promote the NBA 3X festivities for this weekend. And expectedly, questions surrounding basketball followed suit. The first one, on whether he knows anything about the Philippines’ style of play.

“We have a big Filipino community in New Zealand,” he told members of the media on Tuesday.  “I’ve played in a couple of tournaments with Filipino teams.”

“The whole team wanted to be Kobe Bryant,” he shared with a smile. “[They’re] doing fadeaways and all the cool stuff. It’s funny to watch.”

Then there are the queries on being teammates with two elite PGs—one in an historic point guard in Russell Westbrook and then another in Paul George.

“His standards are so high,” he said of his Most Valuable Player teammate. “[He’s] a really good dude. That’s the only thing I care about, honestly. It’s just that he’s an amazing guy to play with.”

Meanwhile, Adams noted that he doesn’t have much to say about the former Pacer yet, as they haven’t really met since the trade.

“Obviously he’s gonna help us,” the Kiwi big man said. “But he’s just gotta be a good guy—if you’re a good guy then everything else is easy.”

Adams will get to know more about basketball in the Philippines when the 3X reaches fever pitch on July 22 through 23 at the Mall of Asia Music Hall.
