MANILA, Philippines - The National Milo Marathon kicks off its 41st season this Sunday in Urdaneta, Pangasinan with organizers expecting to draw more than 200,000 participants from across the country throughout its 16-leg staging culminating in the national finals in Cebu on Dec. 3.

Working on this year’s theme “Magsama-sama, Tumakbo, Matuto (Unite, Run, Learn),” the country’s premier and longest-running footrace will be staging two races in two new venues – Laoag in Ilocos Sur and Roxas City – to add more excitement.

“Every year, we always make it a point to include new venues and this year, we decided to hold them in Laoag and Roxas City,” said Milo Phl Sports executive Robbie de Vera during yesterday’s event launch at the IM Hotel in Makati.

The Cebu finale will also mark the second time that Milo will be staging the final event in the Visayas after Iloilo City hosted the finals last year.

“We’re excited to be holding the national finals in Cebu where the sporting landscape is more invigorating than ever. Our team is on its way to prepare for the biggest race of the season, so expect for this year’s finale to be grander and bolder,” said Ricky Ballesteros, one of the race organizers.

Aside from keeping its commitment to help promote sports, the Milo Marathon will also resume its “Help Give Shoes” program after helping around 70,000 children fulfill their dreams with their donation of brand new pairs of running shoes last year.

After Urdaneta, the qualifying races will proceed to Laoag on July 23, Metro Manila on July 30, Angeles on Aug. 6, Tarlac on Aug. 13, Naga on Aug. 27, Lucena on Sept. 3, Lipa on Sept. 10, Tagbilaran on Sept. 24, Roxas on Oct. 1, Iloilo on Oct. 8, General Santos on Oct. 15, Davao on Oct. 22, Butuan on Nov. 12 and Cagayan de Oro on Nov. 19.

The Phl Sports Commission, Phl Olympic Committee, Phl Track and Field Association are sanctioning the race while Salonpas, Garmin, Hisense, Maynilad and Walter Mart Supermarket are the event’s supporters and partners.
