Generika, F2, Cignal, Cocolife eye PSL semis
MANILA, Philippines - Action in the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference heats up today as four teams clash in do-or-die quarterfinals at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
Reigning champion F2 Logistics collides with Generika-Ayala at 5 p.m. while Cignal tangles with Cocolife at 7 p.m., both looking to advance to the Final Four of the club tournament bankrolled by Belo, Gold’s Gym and Rebisco with TV5 as official broadcast partner.
Meanwhile, Foton took the top seeding after dominating the preliminaries with a 5-1 card with the Tornadoes taking on a young Cherrylume side and powerhouse Petron squaring off with Sta. Lucia Realty in the two other quarterfinal matches on Saturday at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center in Bulacan.
Led by Rachel Anne Daquis, Honey Royse Tubino and national team stalwart Jovelyn Gonzaga, Cignal is tipped to breeze through the Asset Managers following its 19-25, 30-28, 25-22, 25-16 victory over the Lifesavers in the final prelims playdate late Tuesday at the Baliwag Star Arena in Bulacan.
In that match, Daquis, Tubino and Gonzaga combined for 34 points while Cherry Vivas chipped in 13 markers as the HD Spikers bucked a shaky start and dominated the last three sets.
Cignal coach George Pascua lauded the effort of his wards, but stressed the need for a strong start in the quarters and the semis. “We can’t afford to have a slow start in the next round,” said Pascua.
