Pacman displays fine form in workout
BRISBANE, Australia – Manny Pacquiao was an hour late for his date with mediamen Tuesday but did not fail to impress once he stepped inside the ring.
Pacquiao went through the motions with his head trainer Freddie Roach, and put on a one-hour show. He shadowboxed like Jeff Horn was standing in front of him.
During breaks, Pacquiao cracked jokes with his buddies at ringside, a clear sign that all the hard work is done heading to Sunday’s big event.
For some members of the Australian press, it was the first time to see Pacquiao up in the ring.
“Showtime,” said a member of Team Pacquiao as the eight-division champion grunted loudly as he unleashed a flurry of punches to the air.
Before the media workout, the Filipino senator faced the press for questions.
Someone asked, “How many rounds?”
“Twelve rounds. We’re fighting twelve rounds,” was Pacquiao’s answer to the question geared toward a knockout.
“Knockout? I don’t know,” Pacquiao said.
A female reporter threw the question that brought the house down. She asked Pacquiao if he was “ready to be educated” by Horn on Sunday.
Horn, you see, is a former schoolteacher.
“What I can say is that it’s good that he (Horn)’s a teacher. Also, I’m a teacher – in the ring,” said Pacquiao, in his boxing attire and a Golden State Warriors cap.
Quite visible was the redness in the boxer’s left eye or what may have been caused by a broken blood vessel. Later on, it was learned that the eye got thumbed in sparring.
‘It’s just my contact lens,” said Pacquiao.
‘I’m okay. No problem,” he added.
