Kaya booters dominate YFL with 3 titles

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -  Kaya showcased its dominant form as it captured three of the first four crowns disputed in the Youth Football League recently at Alabang Country Club.

The Kaya booters outlasted Global in a thrilling finale that needed extra time to settle, 4-2, to win the U17 Cup even as their counterparts in the U7 and U9 emerged triumphant in their respective categories.

Top-seeded Kaya U17 completed a sweet sweep of hostilities that saw it post an immaculate 21-pointer in the seven-game elims and shut out No. 4 Stallion in the semifinals, 5-0.

Kaya’s U9 bets clinched the title at the expense of JP Voltes, 3-0, to cap an unbeaten campaign of 10 victories and one draw dating back to the preliminaries.

It was a slightly different path taken by Kaya in the U7 as its Team A pulled the rug from under No. 1 Ceres A, 3-1. Kaya XI dealt Ceres’ only defeat in the tournament and avenged its previous setback in the eight-match elims.

MSA Agila thwarted Kaya’s quest for total domination as it beat the latter for the U13 Cup, 1-0. Agila, the top seed, went 9-0 in the entire tournament.

The chase for glory continues for the YFL teams on Sunday with the Cup and Plate semifinals in the U11, U15 and U19 age groups, also at Alabang Country Club.
