Philippines to host 2018 FIBA 3x3 World Cup
MANILA, Philippines – Manny V. Pangilinan, former president of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, announced Sunday night the Philippine's hosting of the FIBA 3x3 World Cup at a still unspecified venue in Manila next year.
Pangilinan, who served two consecutive terms as SBP chief from 2008 to 2015, posted on his Twitter account @iamMVP that he expects the 20 best men's and women's team in the world including entries from the Philippines to participate in the annual meet.
"Next year 2018 we host 3x3 World Cup in Manila, in May, featuring 20 men's teams and 20 women's teams," said Pangilinan.
The SBP has recently hosted the men's and juniors Southeast Asian Basketball Association and also played host to the 2016 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men at the MOA Arena.
The country has fielded in a team composed of Kobe Paras, Kiefer Ravena, Jeron Teng and JR Quinahan in the ongoing 3x3 World Cup in Nantes, France.
The Filipinos have split their first two matches after edging Romania, 21-15, and succumbing to host France, 11-22.
