Draw stalls Stallion, Aguilas in PFL tiff
MANILA, Philippines - Bottom teams Stallion Laguna FC and Davao Aguilas failed to gain ground as they battled to a scoreless draw yesterday in the Philippine Football League at Biñan Stadium.
Both gunning for maximum points in an effort to catch up with idle Ceres at fifth spot, the two sides tried in vain to nail the go-ahead and in the end split the spoils.
Davao and Laguna hiked their respective tallies to two points for a share of sixth behind the Busmen’s four-pointer. They left Ilocos United behind at No. 8 with one point at presstime.
The result was heartbreaking especially for the Aguilas, who got a good break when they won a penalty at the 68th minute. However, the visitor flubbed the golden opportunity as Nikola Grubjesic hit his spot kick into the cross bar.
The Stallion booters had some incursions inside the box and some free kick but they, too, couldn’t cash in even as Davao keeper Marko Trkulja held his own against Laguna’s attacks.
Ilocos was hosting fourth-running Global Cebu FC (seven points) at the Quirino Stadium at presstime.
