Juvic ends up 4th; Que fades to joint sixth
MANILA, Philippines - Juvic Pagunsan birdied two of the last nine holes and shot a 69 to end up fourth while Angelo Que blew a one-shot lead in the early going and wound up tied for sixth with a 71 in the Queen’s Cup won by Malaysian Nicholas Fung in Koh Samui, Thailand yesterday.
Pagunsan, just one behind Fung after 54 holes, hit three birdies against a bogey after eight holes then rebounded from a disastrous double-bogey on No. 9 with birdies on Nos. 10 and 18 as he finished with a two-under 69 for a 12-under 272 total, three shots behind the Malaysian ace, who pooled a 269 after a 67.
Que fought back from two down and grabbed the lead on a three-birdie string from No. 4. But the former three-time Asian Tour winner tumbled with a double-bogey on the par-5 eighth and fell farther back with a bogey on the next.
He bounced back with birdies on Nos. 10 and 13 but bowed out of the title hunt with a bogey on No. 15 and another double-bogey on the 17th. He birdied the last to match par 71 for a 275.
Pagunsan pocketed $25,000 (P1.2 million) for his effort while Que received $14,383.
