Kaya shows might in YFL
MANILA, Philippines — Kaya FC asserted its might as it sent teams to the Cup finals in four age-group divisions in the inaugural Youth Football League (YFL) Saturday at Alabang Country Club.
Unbeaten in the seven-game group stage, top-seeded Kaya sustained its winning run in the U17 competition and walloped fourth-ranked semis opponent Stallion, 5-0, to sail into the finale. No. 3 Global upstaged No. 2 Ceres Youth in the other Last-4 duel, 4-2, to forge a showdown with Kaya.
The Kaya booters also hurdled their respective semis assignments in the U7, U9, and U13 brackets of the club-based youth league formed by Football Alliance to replace the youth arm of the old United Football League.
Ranked second in the U7, Kaya Team A turned back No. 3 Forza, 3-2, to progress against undefeated No. 1 Ceres, which shut out No. 2 Kaya Team B, 6-0.
Kaya’s top-ranked bets in the U9 got past No. 4 Loyola Meralco Sparks, 2-1, to advance versus No. 2 JP Voltes, 5-2 winner over No. 3 Forza.
Third seeds in the U13, Kaya pulled off a 2-1 squeaker over No. 2 JP Voltes to move on to the Cup championship against unblemished No. 1 MSA Agila, which continued its streak with a 4-2 drubbing of No. 2 Ceres in the semis.
