Durant powers Warriors to Game 1 win over Cavs
MANILA, Philippines – Kevin Durant showed he still belonged on the league's championship stage, powering the Golden State Warriors way past the Cleveland Cavaliers, 113-91, in Game One of the NBA Finals on Friday.
Durant, whose last Finals appearance dates back to 2012, finished 38 points in the game, registered 23 points in the first half alone.
The former NBA Most Valuable Player, who transferred from Oklahoma City to Golden State during the offseason, also tallied six dunks in the same span, tying his career-high in a game.
Stephen Curry spearheaded the Warriors' 13-0 run in the third period to pick up where they left off in the first half. He emptied 14 of his total 28 points in that quarter alone. He added 10 assists and six rebounds to his final line.
LeBron James logged 28 points and 15 rebounds, while Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love added 24 and 15 respectively. But all of that had been for naught as the Cavaliers were unable to claw back into the game.
The Warriors committed only four turnovers in the game.
Game Two of the series is again in Oakland, 9 a.m. this coming Monday (Manila time).
