Gervacio, Anghag top Cebuana tennis
MANILA, Philippines - Carmeville Gervacio and Jan Marie Anghag scored victories in contrasting styles to lead the locals’ romp in the Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Championship Series leg in Misamis Occidental recently.
Gervacio overpowered Iligan’s Annamae Mendoza, 6-0, 6-3, to claim the girls’ 18-and-under crown, while Anghag needed an extra set to ward off Rovie Baulete, 6-0, 6-7, 10-3, to pocket the 16-U title.
Carmel Padilla also romped away with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Zeaiha Toribio for the girls’ 14-U plum while Judy Ann Padilla capped the local bets’ domination with a 6-2, 6-2 rout of Toribio in the 12-U finals.
“I am impressed at the level of play by these young players of Ozamis City and most of them have been campaigning regularly in our series which has helped them develop their skills to reach this level,” said Jean Henri Lhuillier, president-CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier.
Cebu City ace Marc Suson took the boys’ 16-U crown with a 6-1, 6-2 win over John Sonsona of Tubod, Lanao del Norte, 6-1, 6-2.
