Huge field vies in New Face of the Year taekwondo
MANILA, Philippines - Around 1,500 taekwondo newcomers face their first big test on May 20-21, when they compete in the 2017 Meralco/MVP Sports Foundation National New Face of the Year championships at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
In the two-day event supported by Smart Communications Inc., Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, PLDT and Milo, the young martial art aspirants will be able to show the techniques and styles they have learned so far.
The participants will come from the Philippine Taekwondo Association’s chapters and branches in Metro Manila and the provinces as well as the country’s military branches. They will compete in eight categories, namely, novice and advance divisions in senior men and women, junior men and women, cadet men and women and grade school boys and girls.
Organizing Committee Chairman Sung Chong Hong says the tournament is also held annually as part of the PTA’s commitment to develop the sport and support the government’s grassroots program.
Parents who are interested to enroll their children in the country’s most popular martial art and sports enthusiasts are invited to watch the competition which starts at 9 a.m.
