ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Government troops overran a camp of the New People’s Army (NPA) following an encounter in Tudela town in Misamis Occidental on Saturday, a military official said yesterday.

Capt. Jo-Ann Petinglay, Western Mindanao Command spokesperson, said there was no reported casualty in the clash.

Petinglay said Joint Task Force ZamPeLan (Zamboanga Peninsula, Lanao) launched an offensive against the rebels, who are members of the Western Mindanao regional party committee, in Barangay Gala.

Two landmines, a rifle, ammunition of a grenade launcher, an NPA flag, a bandoleer and subversive documents were among those recovered from the rebels.

Meanwhile, security remained tight in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat after soldiers of the 2nd Marine Battalion clashed with NPA rebels on Friday that left a soldier and nine rebels dead.

Police said seven Marines were also wounded in the firefight that lasted for three hours.
