All set for FDR Visayas GP

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - There may be some changes along the way, but it's a green and go for the inaugural staging of the FDR Visayas Grand  Prix this Sunday at Hoopsdome in Lapu-lapu City.

Intended to revive the dying sport in the region at the same time develop new talents, this event was planned several years ago but got realized only this year after Charlie Ong met Mallari Racing Development’s Bryan Mallari.

Compared to other motorsports, recent interntational events show Pinoy riders have big potential in road racing. Testament to that is Mario Borbon Jr.

Borbon became the first Cebuano circuit racer to win the prestigious Suzuki Asian Challenge under the Asian Road Race Championships in Thailand late last year.

The multi-titled Borbon fully supports the race, even as also hopes to have more local riders with him on the international stage.

Meanwhile, over a hundred entries are expected to see action in this weekend's multi-brand tilt presented by FDR and backed up by the city government of Lapu-Lapu in partnership with YSS, SSS, KYT, Inside Racing, The Racing Line, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and MS Motosuit, which provides the time trial's timing device.

The categories to be contested are the expert, intermediate and novice underbone and automatic 130, beginners underbone and a/t superstock 115, ladies Honda Beat and underbone superstock. There will also be a Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha Club race.

Entry fee is pegged at P350.

Cash prizes and trophies are at stake for the winners in each class. (FREEMAN)
