Maguikay moves to mandate CCTVs for establishments
CEBU, Philippines - Officials of Barangay Maguikay, Mandaue City are proposing that the installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras be made a mandatory requirement for all business establishments, condominiums and institutions operating in the barangay.
Sponsored by Barangay Kagawad Edgar Cabahug, Ordinance No. 2017-01-013, Series of 2017, requires all business establishments, garage, warehouses, manufacturers, condominiums, institutions to install CCTV Cameras outside their perimeter fences, buildings and gates, to keep business operators and their customers safe from criminal activities.
Cabahug added that CCTVs could also document activities and incidents in the vicinity of these establishments and help authorities identify perpetrators if crimes happen in these areas.
Under the ordinance, a fine of not less than P5,000 but not more than P10,000 and cancellation of business permit will be imposed for non-compliance.
Maguikay Barangay Captain Francis Tan said the ordinance is still subject for review and recommendation by the City Council Committee on Laws and Ordinances before implementation.
Tan said the barangay already conducted a public hearing with the different sectors concerned.
Under Section 458 of the Local Government Code, the proposed resolution needs the approval of the city council to determine whether the proposed legislative measure is within the scope of the prescribed powers of the barangays.
If the ordinance will be given approval by the city council, all owners of existing structures in Barangay Maguikay without CCTV cameras will be given three months to comply. (FREEMAN)
