Diner finds roaches in restaurant food

Odessa O. Leyson - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Government will ask the management of a restaurant located in F. Ramos Street to explain why the city should not shut down their “unsanitized” establishment after a customer complained about finding baby cockroaches in their food.

"Banks or restaurants, no difference when it comes to not following the law. I am sending the management of this establishment a letter asking why they shouldn't be shut down," Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña Facebook post read.

This development came after he received complaint from a certain Francis Tallo who tagged him on a Facebook post about their experience in the said restaurant.

In his post, Tallo said he dined at the restaurant last February 13 with his mom and sister.

His post on Facebook reads: “Halfway through our meal, my sister noticed that there were some dark specks scattered throughout our soup. Upon close inspection, these were baby roaches! We were appalled and grossed out when we realized this and called out the supervisor. He was initially speechless, apologized, and offered a fresh batch (the nerve!), and when I spoke with the area manager, he told me to settle things among us first. But seriously? It is truly unacceptable! Who knows what diseases those roaches were carrying, and my mom is quite old, and doesn't have the best resistance to this.”

Tallo also said customers deserve to get satisfying service from the establishment and not to experience what they did.

City Legal Office head, Lawyer Joseph Bernaldez told The FREEMAN that he has yet to receive directive from the mayor to draft a show cause notice to the said establishment.

In a separate interview, the management of the restaurant declined to comment pending the issuance of an official statement.

Meanwhile, Tallo said that City Health Department (CHD) had already inspected in the area following his complaint.

As of press time, The FREEEMAN was yet unable to reach CHD head Dr. Alma Corpin for comment. (FREEMAN)
