King Archer Jeron Teng exits with a bang, says Finals MVP plum a bonus

MANILA, Philippines – Jeron Teng wants to graduate a champion. And he wanted to happen it soon.

In a series penciled as the "Dream" Finals, De La Salle University's skipper played a game that many could only dream of.

He finished with 28 markers to lead all Archers in scoring and hauled three rebounds as well. And the free throws he is notoriously bad at? He sank four of his total six.

But most noteworthy was the fact that Teng provided the scoring punch in a hurry -- as if he just wanted to dispose of the Eagles right there and then.

"Right from the start pa lang, gusto ko na ibigay 'yung best ko talaga," Teng said of his performance. Kasi ito na 'yung last ko so I wanted to give my all for La Salle."

Teng, who was earlier named into the league's Mythical Team, dropped all of his 19 markers only in the first half. And as if it wasn't enough to go with the crown he just won, he was also named Finals Most Valuable Player.

"Siguro 'yung Finals MVP, reward na lang 'yun," he said of the feat. "Blessing na lang yun. From the very beginning, even before UAAP started, I only had one goal -- and that's to win the championship."

And having been able to snare all this milestones, according to Teng, wouldn't have been possible if not for his coach Aldin Ayo.

"My first four years in La Salle, we weren't pressing at all," Teng noted. "Medyo nag-adjust. Pero ang motto namin from the very beginning is 'Whatever it takes.'"

"For me as long as we have one goal and that is to win the championship, lahat gagawin namin. If it requires us to follow the system, we'll do just that," he  added.

Teng, who was a scoring machine in his early days with Xavier, caps off a basketball chapter with two UAAP championships and Finals MVPs, four namings to the Mythical Five, and a Rookie of the Year citation.
