Disc Life holds Ultimate Frisbee league

MANILA, Philippines - The Disc Life Philippines will hold the Ultimate Frisbee Inter-barangay League in Clark, Pampanga this weekend with a huge field expected to join.

The event also serves as a fund-raiser for the development of the sport through grassroots programs, and education and livelihood assistance for the communities DLPH has been supporting.

Some of the teams participating in the event, backed by Mighty Sports and Cherrylume, are from barangays Smokey Mountain and Payatas.

Organizers are also enjoining those interested to support the advocacy to help the youth through sports by joining the league by registering online, or joining the One Disc Forward Program and adopting some teams, or by volunteering as marshal or coach.

Proceeds of the event will go the grassroots programs of DLPH such as ultimate frisbee clinics as well as education and livelihood assistance for the communities they support.

In Ultimate Frisbee, a fast becoming a popular sport, especially among the youth, players use an ultimate disc either on a field, covered court, or any open space.

There are already around 200 registered teams in the country, some of which are from top colleges and universities.

According to Reyes, Disc Life Philippines president, what makes this sport appealing is the culture that it promotes.

“Sports is a great equalizer. It surpasses cultural, gender, and social class barriers. And ultimate frisbee is one of the sports that greatly embodies this. It’s one of the few sports that allows both men and women of different ages and from different walks of life to play alongside each other (mixed format),” she said.
