Peaceful Garbo sa Lapu-Lapu – city police

CEBU, Philippines - The staging of the Garbo sa Lapu-Lapu last Friday has been generally peaceful, according to the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.

Chief Inspector Junnel Caadlawon, operations chief, said there were no untoward incidents reported throughout the duration of the Civic Military Parade and the street dancing competition.

Caadlawon said the elements of Gun-ob Police Station were deployed to secure the activity. They were augmented by at least 30 personnel from the LCPO headquarters.

Personnel from the City Traffic Management Systems also helped in the security.

“Assisted sad ta sa mga traffic enforcers nato on every corner sa street,” Caadlawon said.

The Garbo sa Lapu-Lapu was participated by the 30 barangays of the city competing for various categories such as Higante, Float, Street Dancing, Pasahalad, and Festival Queen.

The parade was held along S. Osmeña Street in Barangay Poblacion.

Barangay Mactan won the first place with P20,000 cash prize. Barangay Pajo bagged the second prize worth P17,500 while Olango Island group 2 finished third with P15,000.

In the Pasahalad category, Barangay Buaya won first place (P50,000); Barangay Mactan placed second (P45,000); and Barangay Gun-ob bagged the third place (P40,000).

Barangay Mactan also bagged the first prize in street dancing category with P10,000 cash, Barangay Buaya finished second (P8,000) and Barangay Gun-ob took the third place with P5,000 cash.

In the float category, Barangay Subabasbas won the first prize (P30,000); Barangay Mactan placed second (P25,000); and Barangay Agus was third with P20,000.

Association of the Barangay Councils President and Gun-ob Barangay Captain Jose Dungog led the organizers of Garbo sa Lapu-Lapu.

The annual event is held two days before the fiesta celebration of Virgin Dela Regla (Our Lady of the Rule), the city’s patron saint. (FREEMAN)
