Tigers, Tams unscathed in UAAP men's beach volley opener.

MANILA, Philippines -- The University of Santo Tomas Tiger Spikers' bid to finally end their three-year campaign as bridesmaids with a solid UAAP 79 opening performance Saturday at the Sands by the Bay in Pasay City.
Kris Roy Guzman and Anthony Arbasto swept defending champions Marck Espejo and Ish Polvorosa of Ateneo de Manila University, 21-17, 21-15, to avenge their previous season heartbreak.
The Tiger Spikers continued their onslaught until the last game of the day when they thrashed University of the East's Gherick Ortega and Ruvince Abrot, 21-8, 21-11.
Far Eastern University's Jude Garcia and Richard Solis were also perfect on opening day, defeating De La Salle University's Chris Dumago and Wayne Dumago, 21-12, 15-21, 16-14, and Adamson University's Rence Melgar and JP Yude, 21-18, 21-19.
Ateneo, meanwhile, came from behind to deal National University's Fauzi Ismail and Madzlan Gampong their first loss, 11-21, 24-22, 16-14.
"Galing kasi kami sa Spiker's Turf tapos two weeks pa lang talaga kami nag training. Tapos yung partner ko (Ish) bago pa lang siya sa beach volleyball," Ateneo's Espejo said.
Earlier, NU swept UE, 21-16, 21-16.
In other matches, Adamson defeated University of the Philippines' Alfred Valbuena and Wendell Miguel, 21-18, 24-22.
UP, for its part, regrouped and denied La Salle their first win of the season with a 21-13, 21-18 victory.
