Bernardo leads NU over UP in UAAP women's hoops

MANILA, Philippines – Reigning Most Valuable Player Afril Bernardino had 16 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals as titleholder National University overwhelmed University of the Philippines, 74-40, for its fifth straight win in the UAAP Season 79 women's basketball tournament Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs, who are also composed of some members of the newly-minted Seaba champions Perlas Pilipinas, led by as much as 35 points to stretch their three-year winning streak to 37 games.
Jack Animam also had 16 points and grabbed 10 boards while Gemma Miranda tossed in 15 points for NU.
University of Santo Tomas, behind Shanda Anies' 15-point, 13-rebound effort, bested Far Eastern University, 65-61, to improve its record at 2-3.
The Lady Tamaraws and the Lady Maroons fell to 1-4 and 1-5 cards, respectively,
