DLSZ, CEU sustain hot WNC drive

MANILA, Philippines – Unbeaten Centro Escolar University and De La Salle Zobel kept their bids for a sixth straight cage crown going while San Beda College Alabang, St. Scholastica’s College and Miriam College continued to dominate volleyball in the 47th WNCAA over the weekend.

CEU crushed Miriam, 74-13, in the senior division at St. Scholastica gym last Sunday for its third straight win while DLSZ made it 4-0 in the midget level after slipping past St. Paul College Pasig, 49-46, at the SPCP gym last Saturday.

DLSZ also stayed unbeaten in three matches in Junior B as it dumped San Beda, 87-39, while defending junior champion Chiang Kai Shek College and Miriam shared the Junior A lead at 2-1 with victories over St. Paul (87-29) and Assumption College (54-21), respectively.

In senior volleyball, San Beda scored a 25-14, 25-19, 25-16 triumph over University of Asia & the Pacific for a 4-0 card at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. The junior Red Lions also pace Group A in a tie with defending champion Miriam at 3-0.

DLSZ and St. Scholastica are on top of the midget field at 4-0, besting Miriam (25-10, 25-9) and Assumption (25-14, 25-19), respectively.

The league, backed by TV5, Mikasa, Molten, Goody, Perskindol, BaliPure and City Lady socks, will resume its weekend-only matches on Oct. 1 and 2 at the gyms of host St. Jude Catholic School and St. Scholastica (basketball), RMC (volleyball) and UA&P (futsal).
