Pinoy Jr. NBA cagers head to China

Philstar.com
MANILA, Philippines – For the third straight year, Filipino Jr. NBA All-Stars will travel to China to train and watch a live NBA game.

The 90 participants from Southeast Asia will fly to Shanghai on October 9 to watch the preseason game of the Houston Rockets and the New Orleans Pelicans at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Singapore will send their first participants following the program's introduction in the country earlier this year.

Aside from a tour of the city, participants will also get to meet with NBA players and legends, and will receive additional basketball training.

"This gathering creates lifelong memories and friendships for our participants, and we will continue providing even more youth with opportunities like this in the years to come." NBA Asia Vice President for Gobal Partnership and Events Francesco Suarez said.

Alaska Milk Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Wilfred Steven Uytengsu said their partnership with the NBA is a big help in their cause to promote active and healthy lifestyle among Filipino children.

“I’d like to congratulate our Jr. NBA Philippine All-Stars on their success. Through Alaska Milk’s Nutrition.Action.Champion. Program and our partnership with the NBA, we have been able to help fuel the basketball dreams and life aspirations of thousands of children across the country,”

To date, Jr. NBA has reached more than 1.5 million children, parents and coaches across Southeast Asia through camps, clinics, and NBA Cares community outreach activities, and aims to reach five million children by 2020.
