Sosa plans to add Nietes to list of Filipino victims

MANILA, Philippines – Former world champion Edgar Sosa of Mexico is not intimidated by Donnie “Ahas” Nietes, pointing out that he has fought many champions before.

“I respect Nietes, he's a complete fighter,” Sosa said in a report by PhilBoxing.com’s Dong Secuya.

“He's got speed and power. But I come here to win. I am mentally and physically prepared to face him on Saturday,” he added.

Nietes, a longtime light flyweight (108 lbs) champion, will test his mettle at flyweight (112 lbs) for the first time when he locks horns with Sosa on Saturday (Sunday Manila time) at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

But for Sosa, Nietes is just another opponent.

“I have face many world champions too,” he said.

“I also beat many Filipino fighters,” continued Sosa, whose list of Filipino victims include former champion Brian Viloria, Sonny Boy Jaro, Juanito Rubillar, Ryan Bito and Roilo Golez.

Only one Filipino has defeated Sosa so far – Rodel Mayol, who stopped the Mexican in 2009 to win the WBC light flyweight belt.

Sosa is confident that Nietes won’t pull off the same feat.
