New champ Ancajas gets P500K bonus from Pacquiao

Dino Maragay - Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines – Aside from becoming the new IBF super flyweight champion, Jerwin Ancajas is P500,000 richer too.

This after Sen. Manny Pacquiao, who is also Ancajas’ promoter, rewarded his fighter with the said amount to add to boxer’s meager purse.

The 24-year-old Ancajas dethroned previously unbeaten McJoe Arroyo in their world title fight over the weekend, flooring the Puerto Rican in the eighth round en route to a unanimous decision win.

According to report by Aquiles Zonio of PhilBoxing.com, Ancajas’ purse for the bout was $3,700 or around P173,000. There were also other expenses such as the IBF sanctioning fee of $1,000, further lowering the boxer’s take home pay.

Anjas’ meager earnings for the fight did not go unnoticed by Pacquiao, who is known for his generosity.

“Kawawa naman. Ang liit ng premyo. He (Ancajas) deserves to get a bonus for bringing honor to our country,” Pacquiao said.

“He (Ancajas) had all the stuffs champions are made of – humility, courage, determination and strong faith in God,” he added.
