Perasol shrugs off UP's opening day loss to Adamson

MANILA, Philippines — UP may have been marooned by Adamson last Sunday, but coach Bo Perasol believes it’s too early for his squad to be written off.

“We didn’t expect them to shoot that high. As far as our effort is concerned, I'm good with that,” he said.  “I was telling them the score was not a reflection of how we played.”

The Fighting Maroons were no match against the younger Soaring Falcons side that rode on the hot shooting of Jerrick Ahanmisi.

“Obviously marami pa kaming ma-adjust defensively. We were able to make stops but in the end kinapos pa rin,” said the UP coach.

“I think [Adamson] really shot the ball well. We weren't able to scout them. Hindi naging detailed ang [scouting] report namin because this is just the first game,” Perasol added.

“We just can't have a good game and let our opponents have good games also,” he offered.

That task may appear extra steep as the State U’s next assignment are the favorites De La Salle University, who will be led by a graduating Jeron Teng and NCAA champion coach Aldin Ayo.

“It's gonna be a tough game against La Salle, but we're going to be tested eh. That's the most important thing in this tournament, if we're gonna be tested, what are we going to do?

“Looking forward, we need to find a way to get our opponents out of sync,” Perasol, a former Ateneo de Manila University and PBA-tested tactician said.

“This is just the first game,” he said.

The Fighting Maroons will lock horns with the Green Archers this coming Saturday, after the latter takes on the Far Eastern University Tamaraws this Wednesday in a much-anticipated continuation of a tune-up game that went sour.
