Soltones on ugly San Sebastian loss to UP: 'Nagka-inisan na kami'

MANILA, Philippines – San Sebastian team captain Gretchel Soltones nearly ran out of words to describe the Lady Stags' lackluster performance during their Shakey’s V-League loss to the University of the Philippines on Wednesday.

"Wala talaga kaming laro as a team. Hindi naman ako naniniwala sa ‘off (days)’ as a person. For me kasi depende talaga yun as a player sa loob ng court," she told reporters after her team suffered a  17-25, 25-23, 5-25, 18-25 setback to the Lady Maroons at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

Soltones said the Lady Stags did not know what hit them, especially in the third set which they lost via landslide 5-25.

"Medyo nagka-inisan na sa loob ng court kasi alam naman namin na kaya namin eh. Hindi namin inaasahan na ganun 'yung mangyayari eh," she continued.

Even the reigning two-time NCAA MVP did not know what to do when the Lady Maroons unloaded on them.

"Ang hirap kasi iangat ang bawat isa pag ikaw sa sarili mo hindi mo kaya iangat. Hindi na ako nagsalita, hinayaan ko na lang na si coach ang magsalita."

Soltones led San Sebastian with 15 points built on 13 attacks and two service aces.

The Lady Stags will now have to face the Ateneo Lady Eagles for the last semifinals spot on Saturday at the same venue.
