Nothing special in UP’s win over San Sebastian, says Lady Maroons coach

MANILA, Philippines – On paper, the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons dominated the San Sebastian Lady Stags in the third set in their match on Wednesday. But UP head coach Jerry Yee believes his team did nothing special.

In their quarterfinals meeting in the 13th Shakey's Collegiate Conference in the PhilSports Arena in Pasig, UP took the third set, 25-5, after losing the second.

"Sila yun (San Sebastian.) I don't see na napaka-dominating ng performance (namin.) Wala naman kaming ginawa na extra," said Yee, whose wards ended up with a 25-17, 23-25, 25-5, 25-18 victory.

True enough, the Lady Stags managed to only get three attack points in the third set after a rousing second set performance.

Yee said the Lady Maroons still needs to improve on a lot of things, including limiting their errors.

"Mahirap kasi 'yung backs against the wall tsaka ka kikilos. Kung pwedeng ilaro mo nang tama, execute ka na ng tama. Ang dami pang errors eh, ang daming inconsistencies. Malayo pa eh, practice pa."

Now in the Final Four, Yee is looking forward to face National University, whom they beat in the quarterfinals.

"Good exposure sa amin. Gusto namin makalaro sila ulit for the sake of ma-practice, ma-tune up yung team going up against them," he said.
