Mighty Koreans rip Pinoy batters

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines bowed to powerhouse Korea, 0-14, in a stumbling start in the 11th Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) Under-18 Baseball Championship yesterday at Taichung Ballpark in Taichung Taiwan.

The Koreans imposed their will on the Filipinos and launched their title defense in emphatic fashion in the opening game of Group B.

In the other Group B match, China demolished Thailand, 11-0, to join Korea in the win-column.

Fancied Japan flexed its muscles in a 19-0 annihilation of Hong Kong over in Group A at the Intercontinental Ballpark as it completed a day of routs in the kickoff of the six-day tourney.

The Pinoy batters try to bounce back Wednesday night when they face Southeast Asian rival Thailand. Korea and China engage in a battle of opening-day winners in the other group match.
