Philippine men, women bets wiped out of China Open 9-Ball
MANILA, Philippines – Taiwanese Cheng Yuhsuan showed the last Filipino standing, Jeffrey Ignacio, the door, hacking out an 11-10 squeaker in their quarterfinal duel in the China Open 9-Ball tourney Saturday night in Shanghai.
Yuhsuan, the top-ranked player in the world, beat Ignacio in a hill-hill encounter a few hours after giving Carlo Biado the boot in the Last-16 via the same scoreline.
Ignacio became the lone Pinoy in the hunt after the defeats of Biado and Jeffrey de Luna in the Round-of-16. While Ignacio disposed of Japanese Naoyuki Oi, 11-9, Biado suffered the numbing loss to Yuhsuan and de Luna absorbed a 3-11 shellacking from Ko Pin Yi.
This completed the wipeout of the Phl delegation in the $373,600 event..
Johann Chua and Lee Van Corteza crashed out earlier in the Last-32 and Chezka Centeneo and Rubilen Amit took the exits in the women’s Last-16.
Dennis Orcollo and Warren Kiamco failed to get past the double-elimination first stage.
