Kamayan downs Media in Eduque Cup
MANILA, Philippines - Allan Pasion powered Kamayan Golf Club to a crushing 38-stroke victory over arch-rival Media to regain the Tito Eduque Memorial Cup in the 29th Triple V-Media Golf Classic at the Camp Aguinaldo Golf Club on Monday.
Pasion shot a gross 75 for a net 63 on the soggy Aguinaldo layout as Kamayan avenged a narrow two-stroke loss to Media in last year’s edition of the dual meet between the Kamayan Golf Club and the golfing members of Media. Enzo Martinez and basketball coach Virgil Villavicencio backed this up with a pair of 64s to lead Kamayan scorers.
The Kamayan golfers scored a 10-man total of 665 against Media’s 703.
The Inquirer’s Nilo Paurom led Media’s unsuccessful defense with 65 but got little support from the rest of the team.
Pasion and Paurom were the overall champions of Kamayan and Media, respectively, in the annual tournament held as part of the anniversary celebration of the Triple V Group of Restaurants, which opened its latest outlet at SM Fairview earlier this week. The Tito Eduque Memorial Cup is named after the late national basketball coach and Triple V chair.
In the Media side tournament, Anthony Suntay ruled Class A with a 67 followed by Jong Arcano (69) and Jun Engracia (75). Class B title went to Joel Laxamana (72) with Ding Marcelo (75) and Albert Garcia (78) taking runner-up honors. Corrie Narisma (66) was Class C champion followed by Noel Velasco (67) and Al Mendoza (72).
