WATCH: Duterte adds P2M to Hidilyn Diaz’s reward pot

Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines – Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz became P2 million richer after President Duterte announced he is giving the weightlifter the said amount for bringing honor to the country.

Duterte made the announcement in a press conference held in Davao City late Thursday as Diaz made a courtesy call to the chief executive.

“[I gave her the extra reward] Maybe because I was overjoyed, because of the distinct honor she brought home,” the President told reporters.

The cash reward from Duterte comes on top of the P5 million prize Diaz received from the Philippine Sports Commission as mandated under Republic Act 10699, the amended incentives law, which rewards Filipino athletes that medal in the Olympics.
