Weightlifter Colonia comes up short in completing twin kills

Philstar.com
MANILA, Philippines – Weightlifter Nestor Colonia was unable to replicate Hidilyn Diaz's valiant finish in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Monday morning.

The 24-year-old Colonia cleared his first attempt of 120 kgs at  the  snatch, but he was unsuccessful in the next tries.

He tried to keep his bid alive with an attempt at 154 kgs but was unable to.

Colonia, like his compatriot Diaz, is a native of Zamboanga. He, too, is a decorated athlete in the regional arena.

But unlike the silver-winning Diaz – now on her third Olypmpics –  this is Colonia's first time in the Olympiad.

He copped a gold in the 2015 Asian Championships along with a bronze in the World Weightlifting Championship.

China's Long Qinquan emerged as the best with a combined lift of 307 kgs. North Korea's Om Yun-chol bagged silver with 303 kgs.
