MANILA, Philippines – Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz shook up the Philippine sports scene early Monday after winning the country’s first medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Diaz’s impressive showing in the women's 53kg weightlifting netted her a silver medal, ending the Philippines 20-year medal drought in the quadrennial sports spectacle.

The 17-year-old Diaz lifted a total of 212kg to complete the podium finish.
