MANILA, Philippines – After teaching almost 600 kids the basics of volleyball in four summer stops, Alyssa Valdez brings her wildly popular skills camp to Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao this August.

The three-time UAAP MVP will conduct two-day volleyball workshops in Manila, Cebu City, Davao City and Iloilo City, she announced in a press conference at the Wack-Wack Golf and Country Club on July 22.

Organized by Crosscourt and backed by PLDT Home Ultera, the AV Skills Camp 2 is expected to draw more than 1000 participants in the 7-leg activity that will also include clinics in Legazpi, Tuguegarao and Binan.

“I am very excited to do it again,” said Valdez, who recently led Ateneo to a bronze medal in the ASEAN University Games. “We’re very happy that we can now expand our reach to more provincial venues where there are a lot of volleyball fans, too.”

“I’m looking forward to bonding with my fellow coaches while also sharing our knowledge of the sport to the participants,” she added.

Joining Valdez in the AV Skills Camp 2 are Denden Lazaro, Jem Ferrer, Ella de Jesus, Maddie Madayag, Therese Gaston, Johnvic de Guzman, Jaja Santiago, Jorelle Singh, Grethcel Soltones and resident mentor Joyce Palad, among others.

Registration to the camp is Php2,000 per participant and will include the official shirt and other freebies. Interested parties can visit www.facebook.com/CrosscourtPH for registration instructions.

The camp kicks off on August 6-7 at Badminton City in Manila before moving to the Southwestern University in Cebu on August 13-14. Ateneo de Davao gets to host the activity on August 20-21 before the final leg on August 27-28 at the Ateneo de Iloilo.

Valdez and crew will also take part in exhibition games against local counterparts in Cebu City and Iloilo City on August 14 and 27, respectively.

“Through this camp, we hope to get more young people into volleyball,” said Valdez. “Getting to mingle with our great coaches and learning from them will be a wonderful way to introduce these kids to the sport we love.”

Before the AV Skills Camp 2, Valdez’s group, which also includes veteran volleyball personalities like Mozzy Ravena and coach Jerry Yee, will also organize the first-ever Crosscourt Volleyball Tournament-Teens, gathering eight teams from Metro Manila and Laguna next week.
