UFL All-Stars, Azkals to test Australian squad

Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines – As part of its ten day pre-season camp, Perth Glory, a consistent contender in the A-League, the professional successful league in Australia, is in the Philippines to compete in tune-up matches in preparation for their tournament on August 10 against Brisbane Roar.

The team will be competing against Global FC of the United Football League Wednesday in Rizal Memorial Stadium.

On July 23, the Australian squad will test the mettle of the UFL All-Star team led by Aly Borromeo of Kaya and Jason De Jong of Loyola Meralco Sparks, also in the same venue. Calling the shots from the sidelines will be Sparks coach Simon McMenemy.

Then on July 26, the Philippine Azkals will host the Perth Glory in the artificial pitch of the newly built Quirino Stadium in Bantay, Ilocos Sur.

Alongside Australian national team mainstay Josh Risdon, others expected to lead the attack are veteran Dino Djulbic and youth players Brandon Wilson, Joe Knowles and Luke Bodnar.

According to their coach Kenny Lowe, he expects the squad “to experience different situations and conditions and getting outside their comfort zone”. He also expects this training camp as an opportunity for their new players to bond and adjust to the team.

Even with a slight delay in the Philippines because of the runway issue which forced them to stay in Singapore, coach Lowe still expects the team to be competitive and show good form in their international friendly matches.
