Phoenix eyes No. 5 vs Topstar

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Top meets bottom as unbeaten Phoenix takes on winless Topstar ZC Mindanao today even as Blustar seeks a second straight win against AMA Online in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The Accelerators swept their four games although coach Eric Gonzales remains far from being satisfied over his wards’ performance, noting their lack of competitive spirit.

But they are expected to roll past the Aguilas in their 4 p.m. encounter although the Accelerators will be without ace Mac Belo, who was suspended for one game after getting ejected against the Blustar Dragons the last time out.

Meanwhile, the Dragons hope to score a follow-up to their breakthrough 89-75 romp over the Aguilas last Thursday that ended a four-game skid.

But the Titans are also out to snap their own four-game losing skein as they clash with the visiting Dragons at 6 p.m.

Blustar coach Goh Cheng Huat was happy to note his Malaysian wards are finally stepping up, saying: “Now they have gotten over the fear of facing the Filipino players. It’s a good sign because now, they won’t get beaten easily and they are adapting to the Filipino style of play.”

“One of our main objectives coming here is to adapt to the style of play of the Filipinos that we are appreciating for a long time. It’s a good opportunity and I hope the players are getting that style of play,” said Goh.
