Dela Cruz, Tangalin shine in Head jr tennis

MANILA, Philippines – Erinn Dela Cruz and second seed Neil Tangalin trounced their respective rivals to lead the winners in the seventh leg of the 18th Head Junior Tennis Satellite Circuit at the Baguio Tennis Club in Baguio City recently.

The top seeded Dela Cruz outplayed Hannah Dela Cruz, 6-1, 6-2, to pocket the girls’ 18-and-under singles crown while Tangalin bagged the boys’ 18-U trophy with a 6-3, 6-2 rout of Jonas Joseph Silva in the annual competition organized by Dynamic Sports.

No. 1 Jhastine Red Ballado swept Khrysa Soriano, 6-0, 6-0, to clinch the girls’ 16-U plum then posted the same rout over Pia Bianca Wong to nail the 14-U diadem in the tournament supported by Head, Chris Sports, Toalson, 92.5 FM Aksyon Sports, Reach Magazine, Philippine Tennis Association (Philta), Pilipino Mirror, ANC, Impact Magazine and Podcast.ph.

No. 1 Jonas Joseph Silva, meanwhile, bounced back in the boys’ 16-U finals by downing Zire Mina, 6-3, 6-2, while Martin Buenaventura won via walkover against Eurydice Gaspar for the boys’ 14-U crown.

In other results, Alexander Josue whipped Adriana Janine Cabahug, 4-2, 4-1, to win the 10-unisex title, while Magno Jucutan beat Joewyn Rey Pascua, 6-2, 6-2, for the boys’ 12-U plum and Angelyn Atos routed Angela Lucas, 6-1, 6-3, for the girls’ 12-U diadem.

The doubles champions were Angelyn Atos and Pia Bianca Wong (girls’ 14-U); Angela Tangalin and Sharry Caluza (girls’ 18-U); Eurydice Gaspar and Nemison Diaz (boys’ 14-U); and Neil Tangalin and Joshua De Guzman (boys’ 18-U).
