Global blanks Voltes, takes UFL top spot

Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Global FC cranked it up in the second half to clobber JP Voltes, 4-0, in a battle of unbeaten teams and gain the top spot in the UFL League competition at Rizal Memorial Stadium Thursday night.

Arthur Kouassi delivered a brace and Hikaru Minegishi hit the mark as the reigning Cup titlists streaked to their third straight win for a leading nine points at the table. Voltes got stuck with six points.

“I’m happy with the way the players responded in the second half,” said Global coach Leigh Manson, whose wards gear up for a tough outing against spotless Loyola Meralco Sparks (six points) today.

“Voltes are a very organized side, they made it difficult for us. But we got three wins out of three and this should give us momentum going to the Loyola game,” added Manson.

The celebration however turned sour as Global players and staff found out they lost their cell phones and cash in the dugout. The team had filed a police blotter.

Meanwhile, Rizal Stadium’s administrator, the Philippine Sports Commission, said a probe is under way and vowed “strong action” against the culprits.

“I instructed operations (department) to make an internal investigation. I also contacted (Global CEO) Dan Palami about it, so we will take strong action against the perpetrators; there are suspects at hand. This should not happen,” said PSC executive director Guillermo Iroy.
