GlobalPort, Star catch last train to semifinals

MANILA, Philippines - GlobalPort overwhelmed Blackwater and Star turned back Barangay Ginebra San Miguel yesterday to clinch spots in the crossover semifinals of the Under Armour-Batang PBA 12-and-under basketball tournament at the Philippine Science High School gym in Quezon City.

The Batang Pier destroyed the Batang Elite, 80-36, to arrange a Final Four showdown with the Batang Phoenix Fuel Masters tomorrow at the JCSGO gym in Cubao.

Joaquin Espina fired 13 points as GlobalPort surged to a 51-point bulge, 78-27, with two minutes left in the lopsided game.

In the other game, the Batang Star Hotshots broke away from a tight first quarter contest and went on to beat the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel side, 66-56, for a semis clash with unbeaten Rain Or Shine.

James Matthew Ganotisi and Prince Cholo Velasco combined for 20 points while Julian Glen Pangilinan added nine markers.

The Batang ROS Elasto Painters dominated the elims with a 5-0 slate followed by GlobalPort with 4-1 and three teams – Phoenix, Star and Barangay Ginebra – tied at 3-2. But the Fuel Masters and Hotshots took the last two berths on superior tiebreak scores over the Kings in the event backed by Under Armour.
