Valdez confirms V-League stint

MANILA, Philippines – Alyssa Valdez has confirmed Wednesday that she will see action in the Shakey's V-League's 12th season-opening conference set on May 15 just a week after playing her last UAAP game with Ateneo.

"I'm going to play here for the Shakey's V-League," said Alyssa Valdez in Thursday's launching of the PLDT Home Ultera Alyssa Valdez summer camp at The Frazzled Cook in Quezon City.

But Valdez, who won three MVP trophies and two championships in five finals appearances with Ateneo in the UAAP, said she still has no team yet after her mother team, PLDT, is not joining just this conference.

"I have no team yet but I will surely play," said Valdez.

Valdez also bared plans of accepting job offers to play for a club team in Maldives, Indonesia or Thailand as well as lending her services to the national volleyball team seeing action in international tournaments like the Southeast Asian Games.

Potential teams that Valdez could land on could be Philips Gold or Pocari Sweat.

"I'm really open to play outside the country and give myself a chance to play for the national team and represent the country as my way of giving back to the sport of volleyball," said Valdez.

Along with her volleyball friends, Valdez launched a program named after her.

They will hold training camps in different venues, including one in Batangas and Cubao, Quezon City.

Among the known players joining her are Johnvic de Guzman, Ange Tabaquero and Shai Arandador; Ateneo teammates Bea de Leon, Jhoanna Maraguinot, Amy Ahomiro and Ella de Jesus; and Kim Fajardo, who helped La Salle beat Valdez and Ateneo for this year's UAAP championship.
