Knights waylay Stags, grab lead in Martin Cup

MANILA, Philippines - Letran trounced San Sebastian, 90-78, to grab the solo lead in seniors play while Far Eastern U streaked to its third straight win in juniors side in the 22nd Fr. Martin Cup summer basketball tournament at the Arellano gym in Legarda last Tuesday.

Rey Nambatac fired 20 points while John Paul Calvo and Jerick Balanza added 14 and 12 markers, respectively, as the Knights, the reigning NCAA champions under coach Jeff Napa, stormed to their third straight triumph for the lead in Group B.

The Knights also routed the Jose Rizal University-A Heavy Bombers, 80-64, and the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 89-69.

The Baby Tams, on the other hand, drew 25 points from LJ Gonzales as they thumped the La Salle-Greenhills-A squad, 86-66. LSGH, now behind FEU at 3-1, earlier won over San Beda-B, 78-69.
