PPS-PEPP lines up Bicol tennis festival

MANILA, Philippines - A two-week Palawan Pawnshop-Palawan Express Pera Padala tennis festival, featuring the best of the best from the junior ranks and the Open category, kicks off tomorrow at various courts in Bicol.

Close to 300 players from M’lang, Cotabato, Lucena, Agoo, La Union, Iriga, Surigao, Roxas City, Iloilo City, Legazpi, Gen. Santos, Mindoro, Sultan Kudarat, Davao del Sur and National Capital Region gear up for a battle royale in the Group 2 age-group tournament presented by Slazenger set at Lingnon, DPWH-Res Camp, Ola and Binitayan courts and Clergy Tennis Club.

Koranadal’s Jangus Ringia, Sultan Kudarat’s Wilfred Bentillo, Klyde Lagarde from Gensan and NCR-Alabang ace Marcus del Rosario head the cast in the boys’ 16- and 18-and-under divisions.

Carlyn Guarde from Sultan Kudarat, Jazelle Madis from M’lang, Cotabato, Lucena City’s Kaye Alcala and Iriga’s Patricia Corporal banner the girls’ 16- and 18-U rosters.

“This is going to be an exciting two-week festival where we expect surprises, reversals and new faces to emerge,” said Palawan Pawnshop president/CEO Bobby Castro.

Host Gov. Joey Salceda, Rep. Al Bichara and Mayor Noel Rosal have guaranteed the successful staging of the two-week event sanctioned by the Philippine Tennis Association and backed by Asiatraders Corp., exclusive distributor of Slazenger, the official ball, to be capped by the Bicol Open 2016 on April 19-24 featuring the country’s leading players.

Local ace Jenard Gonzales and Jan Harold Trillanes from Iriga along with Martin Buenaventura from Pinamalayan, Mindoro lead the chase in the boys’ 14-U section while Minette Bentillo of Sultan Kudarat, NCR-Manila’s Kryshanna Brazal, Julia Ignacio and Gab Zoleta from Lucena City, Ma. Angelica Novis from Malita, Davao del Sur, and Iloilo’s Avril Suace will slug it out in the girls’ 12- and 14-U categories.
