Texters not happy with import ban

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Was due process observed by PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa in making his decision to ban for life import Ivan Johnson from playing in the local pro league?

This is the question of the Tropang TNT management although it had accepted Narvasa’s decision, and is now looking for a replacement for their volatile import.

“We’ll abide. We’re sending home Ivan Johnson but, still, the question is whether due process was observed,” said Tropang TNT team manager Virgil Villavicencio. “The decision was handed out with the game still being played. Why the haste?”

Villavicencio said the TNT higher management was upset with the manner the decision was made.

“Why ban a player for life without due process? We’re talking about careers being affected,” said Villavincencio, quoting one of his bosses as saying.

Narvasa automatically sacked Johnson while the TNT-Meralco game was in progress Saturday “for addressing the commissioner with profanities and showing utter disrespect for authority.”

Johnson was banned from the league and fined P250,000.
